Essential Animal Tracking 2-Day Workshop

Please join instructors Jon Poppele, Donnie Phyllaier, and Marty Miller for three inspiring sessions on the ancient art and science of animal tracking. This special 2-Day workshop will focus on the fundamentals of animal tracking. Day 1 will feature classroom sessions while day 2 will offer an opportunity to apply what we are learning in the field. All levels of interest and proficiency are welcome. Beginners will benefit by understanding the foundational skills. More experienced trackers will benefit from a return to fundamentals and gain new perspectives and resources for deepening their skills. Attendees will benefit the most by attending both days but attendance at one or the other is also welcomed. The 2-day workshop is being offered free of charge. (Donations are welcome)Day 1 -- October 18, 9am- 2pm, MN Valley Wildlife Fundamentals of Animal Tracking (Classroom Sessions)We will be meeting at the MN Valley Wildlife Refuge visitor center for two sessions from 9am -2pm. From 9:00-11:30, we will cover some basic track ID and give several "rules of thumb" for family and species identification. From 12:00-2:00 we will explore gaits, behavior, environmental and contextual tracking. Bring a notebook, pen and pencil, and your own brown bag lunch. Day 2 -- October 19, 9am-12 noon, Ft. Snelling State Park

"Dirt-Time" and Self-Assessment (Field Session)

We will meet at Fort Snelling State Park at the Visitor's Center, fireplace room, at 9am. After a brief introduction we will head out to some pre-scouted track and sign stations within the park where attendees will be able to better internalize and test their skills along with peers on a range of clear and relatively more difficult tracks and trails.
