Equinox Exploring: A Celebration of Seasons & Community

Post date: Sep 10, 2015 7:6:47 PM

Come join friends for a community picnic and outdoor fun to celebrate the end of summer and welcome fall in scenic Theodore Wirth Park.Saturday, September 19

2:30 - 9:00pm

Wirth Lake Picnic Area

Gather at Wirth Lake Picnic Area off Glenwood Ave at 2:30 pm to meet old friends and new acquaintances. Family-friendly activities starting at 3:00 pm will include a Shinrin-Yoku* walk, a scavenger hunt, and some surprises!

Of course, what would a summer picnic be without a cookout? We’ll fire up the charcoal grill around 5 PM, with s’mores and stories to follow around a campfire. Musical instruments are welcome. The evening will wrap up around 9:00 pm.

*Shinrin-yoku is Japanese for 'forest bathing', or full immersion in nature with all the senses awakened. Chris Brandt will serve as forest guide to guide you through a walk of exploration and discovery. Participants are invited to experience the present moment and restore health and well-being through deep nature connection.

What should I bring?

  • Side dish to share

  • Something to grill

  • Camp chair or lawn chair

  • Dishes/utensils/cups for picnicking
