Join us as we gather once again on the slopes of the Minnesota River Valley to explore what the birds are telling us about our surroundings. The fall migration is in full gear, bringing bringing fall visitors, winter residents, and changes to the dynamics of the forest. The juvenile Cooper's Hawks are continuing to learn and hone their hunting skills in preparation for their own, long flight south. Meanwhile, we may see the first of our winter allies, the dark-eyed juncos, returning from their northern nesting grounds.

What should I bring?

Bring what you need to be comfortable sitting still, outside on the ground for an extended period of time—perhaps as long as an hour. You will also need something to take notes on. You do not need to have binoculars, but there is no harm in bringing a pair if you would like. Here are a few recommended and optional items to bring:

Recommended:

Note pad & pencil

Ground cloth, blanket or camp-chair

Sun protection

Poncho if it is raining

Optional:

Water bottle

Snack

Binoculars
