As we transition into spring, we will gather for our monthly bird language sit in the Minnesota River Valley. Last month, we got a good look at a pair of barred owls, and the effect they are having on the songbird behavior. Many of us left with questions about the relationship between these owls and the local Cooper's hawks. Are the owls nesting in the area? Will that keep the Cooper's hawks from nesting there again? How will all these dynamics affect the songbirds as we move farther into migration season? Come join us as we experience and share in these inter-species dynamics.
What should I bring?
Bring what you need to be comfortable sitting still, outside on the ground for an extended period of time—perhaps as long as an hour. You will also need something to take notes on. You do not need to have binoculars, but there is no harm in bringing a pair if you would like. Here are a few recommended and optional items to bring:
Recommended:
Note pad & pencil
Ground cloth, blanket or camp-chair
Sun protection
Poncho if it is raining
Optional:
Water bottle
Snack
Binoculars
